What is Japandi Interior Design?

A hybrid of Japanese and Scandinavian design, Japandi, focuses on simple and minimalistic designs that are aesthetically pleasing yet rooted in curating function-driven spaces. Japandi is the fusion of Scandinavian traditional theory of utilization from the environment and Japanese space moderation.

Japanese principles of design

The principle of "Zen" is what balances the whole Japanese interior design concept. Its key influence focuses on "peace" of the space. The concept of "Ma" aims to strike a perfect balance within available space by dedicating half side to the furniture and other stuff and other half leaving clean and spacious.

Scandinavian elements of design

The elements include straight lines, crisp lines, natural light, open spaces, incorporation of functionality and comfort, merging with the surrounding environment and using light colours. Scandinavian interior and exterior designs are heavily influenced by nature and it's principles that can be seen through their heavy woodwork all around.

The similarity between the two

Though continents apart, yet the aesthetic line of both designs is quite similar as both the designs connect over the basic idea of ‘minimalism’. This combination makes the ideal mix of environmental elements, uncluttered spaces, balance and clean lines.

Why Japandi is the keynote of modern design?

The essence of modern design relies on various modern problems, the central being the problem of small spaces. Japandi serves the solution immaculately. Japandi styles management, accommodation and breathable spaces meticulously. The pervasiveness of regular materials is curated within crisp lines and maintenance. Besides, the balmy palette of the interiors gives space a warm, comfortable and welcoming outlook to space which families demand today. The earthen tones combined with Japandi furniture feel quite serene and exhibits tranquil tones of meditation. The sustainable needs, the concept of recycling and reusing, etc fits perfectly within the principles of Japandi. Also, the subtle integration of the two: furniture and management play a huge role in modern designs which Japandi efficiently handles as it creates function-driven spaces defined by a handful of statement pieces rather than an abundance of décor.
